Beautiful. To nurture one’s humanity through acting humanely towards oneself and towards all things. You have unlocked a new level of understanding and opportunity. Thank you for doing the work to mark the path and sharing it.
thank you so much hbb. it's crazy to think that we created these words for the purpose of separation, and yet to embody their meaning we need to move with increased awareness of our unity
Maybe considering she's kind of a reflection of dudes memory of her, in a sense, asking this question is like asking if that part of him was human.. and I think we know the answer to that one
ouf so on point martian. that was actually one of the perspectives from debate class that i cut out (along with the rest of the debate arguments :')). the props team argued that hari is as human as kris is human
This puts words to how I feel and think. I missed watching it and the discussion but now want to watch it. I’ve been pondering why I struggle so much for words when engaging in talk about behavior, personality, connection and the need to love, engage, care, and act. “Life” or “human” is how what I usually end up landing on but “human” always feels a bit off of what I’m trying to express and “life” is so broad that I feel people don’t comprehended what I’m trying to say. For me though, “human” has definite biochemical and physical markers, along with things mentioned, but it doesn’t mean better or superior to nonhuman life. Doing census, I offered “human” as a write in option to demographic labels that some people didn’t want to or know how to answer. I’ve recently stumbled into discussion of plasmoids and plasma. Life is fascinating :)
i love that you mention that liz because even in our class debate, the biggest struggle was exactly that, defining "human" and realizing every time that there was something a bit off about trying to pin it down, even though something about it made intuitive sense.
thank you ahmad, i'm so glad you enjoyed these thoughts, especially the philosophies. this was originally twice as long and i had to cut out a lot of perspectives for the sake of brevity :')
Ah, brevity is important in this age of show business as Neil Postman calls it. We can't focus for long 😅 I am sure the complete version would have been equally interesting and much more informative.

This philosophical train of thought is splendidly put down. Are we humans? How we behave and treat others determine the answer to the question.
